Hello Coyote Creek Families!
We had the opportunity to celebrate Pink Shirt Day this past week and enjoyed many classroom conversations around kindness and friendship. Thank you to our families who joined us in wearing pink to celebrate Pink Shirt Day! We hope you and your family are able to get outside this upcoming weekend and enjoy some beautiful BC weather!
PAC General Meeting – March 2nd 7:00pm
We have a general meeting for all PAC and interested parents coming up Wednesday, March 2 at 7:00pm. There will be a Zoom link sent closer to the day.
Parent Survey from the Surrey School District
As many of you are aware, in late February, our district typically holds an in-person community forum and invites PAC representatives to attend sessions to learn more about our budget and other key priorities. In the interest of health and safety, we have once again moved our 2022 budget consultations online. All of the presentations have been pre-recorded so they can be viewed safely at home from this web page. As with previous years, there is also an online survey to gather priorities and feedback from parents, students, staff and the larger community.
This year’s agenda includes:
- Introduction (Surrey Board of Education)
- Budget 2022 (presenter: Simon Ayres, Assistant Secretary Treasurer)
- Capital projects (presenter Dave Riley, Director Capital Project Office)
As mentioned above, Surrey Schools is inviting all staff, students, parents and members of the Surrey, White Rock and Barnston Island communities to learn about and provide input on the 2022-23 district budget. Participants can share their feedback via an online survey, or reach out to us through email (email@example.com), traditional mail or your local Parent Advisory Council representative. The survey will run until end of day, March 4, 2022.
It is important to remember that while the majority of the district’s budget is pre-allocated to operating and capital costs (i.e. school construction, additions, seismic upgrades, teachers, educational assistants, programs/services and supplies), there is some room to address priorities identified by the community. This can include anything from funding scholarships, to classroom enhancement funds to new programs and social initiatives.
Health and Safety – An Update to Guidelines
We are excited to be able to welcome our parents into the building as the guidelines begin to relax and visitors are able to visit the school again. Thank you to our families who have helped us remain vigilant in following provincial mandates and health and safety directives.
School Arrival Times
Each morning, our school staff eagerly await your child’s arrival in anticipation of supporting your child’s learning. Getting to school on time for the morning bell at 8:30 is an important way to help your child feel prepared for the school day. It can be helpful to have consistent morning routines that prepare children for what to expect as they arrive to school as valued members of our school community. When students arrive late to class it can impact instructional time and the learning activities that are already beginning. Arriving to school on time can:
- Ensure continuity of learning experiences that happen early in the school day
- Allow time for students to connect before instruction begins
- Provide transition time to start the day and organize personal belongings (i.e change shoes, hang jackets, etc.) Thank you to our Coyote Creek families for your support with this.
