After 6 years of fundraising, 2 phases of our playground project will soon be completed. Last year, we were able to replace the regular swings for 3 saucer swings at a cost of almost $35,000.
This year, the big playground is being replaced starting next week at a cost of just over $112,000 well ahead of its 2021 expiry date. The last phase (where the climbing dome is) will need to be replaced by 2025 and costs are estimated to be around $50,000.This is no easy task because the funds required for playgrounds are the responsibility of the PAC and school community.
We would like to thank Anthem Properties for their donation of $13,000, the City of Surrey for their grant of $10,000 and the Surrey School District for their $10,000 contribution. Most of all, we would like to thank all those, past and present, who assisted and supported in some way over the last 6 years: parents, grandparents, students, staff and administration, and especially the PAC executives. Whether it was volunteering at an event, buying a hot lunch or canvassing businesses it all helped to raise the rest of the $124,000. We hope the new play areas will bring some new energy and excitement for all the students to enjoy now and in the coming years!! And we hope we can continue on your support over the next few years to complete the last phase.
You will notice that security fencing now surrounds the big playground. This is so that district staff can dismantle the old playground starting next week. We hope to have the new playground complete by Nov. 18. Weather may play a factor in completion dates, but we hope to celebrate with a ribbon cutting on Friday, Nov. 22 at 1:00 p.m. (tentative).
